「スマートイルミネーション横浜」でおなじみの『ひかりの実』。今回は、オンラインで笑顔を描く「スマイルアトリエ」を通じて、距離があっても参加できる方法を模索しました。サミット参加国と交流を深めながらつくられた『ひかりの実』は、イベント開催期間中、象の鼻パークの樹に飾られます。

2011年
東日本大震災 未曾有の災害が日本を襲いました。
光りを失った町に、みんなの笑顔を灯したい、再び笑顔の灯る夜景を一緒に見たい。
そんな想いから「ひかりの実」はアートプロジェクトとしてスタートしました。
被災地の仮設住宅で暮らす子供たちは、ワークショップで屈託のない笑顔を見せてくれました。
そんな子供たちの笑顔に勇気づけられたのは他ならぬ僕たち大人たちでした。
一つひとつ灯る「ひかりの実」の笑顔の向こうには、一人ひとり懸命に生きる人の想いがある。
誰かの笑顔は、他の誰かを笑顔にすることができる。
笑顔はそんな魔法を持っているのだとそのとき思いました。
以来、10年間、日本各地で多くの賛同者の方々に支えられ、
10万人以上の参加者の方々の笑顔が「ひかりの実」として灯りました。
2020年、新型コロナウイルス感染症が世界的拡大。
あたりまえに、手をつないだり、ハグしたり、そしてワークショップしたりすることができなくなっても、、、。
それでも変らないものがあるはずです。
あなたの笑顔はきっと他の誰かを笑顔にできる。
誰かの笑顔を愛おしく想うこと。
それはきっと世界中同じはず。
そんな思いからオンライン・リモートワークショップ「スマイルアトリエ」を開きました。
住んでいる国や町から遠くはなれたどこかで
「ひかりの実」に自分が描いた笑顔が灯り、美しく暖かい夜景になり、
見る人の心に優しさが灯る。
笑顔を灯したいという一心から、笑顔を届け、繋ぎたいという思いへ。
「ひかりの実」は、また新たな木々に実ろうとしています。
世界中から、素敵な笑顔が届くのを楽しみにしています。

“Hikari No Mi (Shining Smile Fruit)”, an iconic display from Smart Illumination Yokohama, seeks a new way of keeping the audience involved through “Smile Atelier”, an online workshop of smiley face. Developed through interactions with people from the member countries of the Summit, “Hikari No Mi” will come to fruition on the trees of Zou-no-hana Park during the event.
-Message from the Artist-
In 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake devastated Japan at an unprecedented scale.
To bring a smile back to people’s face in the town where lights were gone, and to share a nightscape illuminated with people’s smiles once again – the desire took a form as an art project called “Hikari No Mi (Shining Smile Fruit)”.
At the workshop, children from temporary houses in the disaster-affected areas smiled innocently. It was actually I and other adults who were greatly encouraged by their smiles.
Beyond each smile on the “Hikari No Mi”, you could see the thoughts of people living sincerely day by day.
A smile can bring another smile. I felt the magical power of a smile at work.
Since the launch a decade ago, the project has received numerous supports from people across Japan. So far, smiles of over a hundred thousand participants illuminated many nights.
In 2020, COVID-19 infection swept through the world.
Now, we are being told not to do things we took for granted, like holding hands, giving a hug, or opening workshops…
Nevertheless, something should remain the same.For example, your smile can still bring a smile to someone else. For example, we cherish someone’s smile no matter where we live.
Smile Atelier, an online remote workshop, takes place to demonstrate these unchanging things.
Somewhere far away from your town or your country, a smile you draw illuminates a “Hikari No Mi”, become part of a beautiful and friendly nightscape, and bring warmth within the people watching it.
From a desire to bring a smile back to people’s face to a desire to deliver a smile and connect people – this year, “Hikari No Mi” will grow on a new kind of trees.
I am very much looking forward to the harvest of wonderful smiles from across the world.
